Crowdsourcing Examples of Bias in Technology

As part of our #EliminateBiasInTech campaign, we are actively seeking your assistance in identifying examples of bias in technology. Examples can be hardware or software in nature.

Some example:

  • a right-handed mouse is biased against – you guessed it, left-handed people.
  • an oximeter does not accurately read the oxygen levels in people of color because the light from its optical sensor does not penetrate the skin of a melanin-enhanced person to the degree it penetrates the skin of a melanin-challenged person.
  • face-recognition technology does not accurately recognize melanin-enhanced people
  • a registration form has fields on it that do not allow for an accurate description of a person to be provided

Share your examples here and be entered to win a $100 Visa Gift Card.
