Measuring DEI: Beyond Simple Counts to Impactful
Engagement & ROI (1.5 hr.)

You have made the decision to embark on a Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) initiative. Good. Now how do you know whether or not your effort is successful? Management guru Peter Drucker has been credited with saying that “if you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.” That applies to DEI. If you can’t measure DEI in your organization, you can’t improve it.

Join us for a discussion of how to measure a DEI initiative that is based on the groundbreaking work of Dr. Edward Hubbard and Curt J. Howes. We will discuss the 3 types of DEI goals, the 20 DEI goal areas, how DEI goals should be aligned to overall organizational goals, and methods for tracking your chosen goals that include Return on Investment (ROI).

Learning Objectives
At the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • identify the goals that are important in your DEI initiative
  • identify the metrics for those goals
  • determine methods to gather data about your DEI initiative
  • understand how to analyze your data and draw conclusions from the analysis

A Board’s Role in Igniting Performance Through Diversity,
Equity, & Inclusion

The Council of Nonprofits defines a Board’s responsibility being “to steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission.” Research from McKinsey, PWC, and others show that organizations that have diversity in their leadership are more likely to outperform their peers. Yet, it is more than just diversity of people that makes an organization perform at its best.  This session will explore how Boards can ignite the performance of their organizations by embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion for themselves and their organizations.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • understand how diversity, equity, and inclusion can impact your Board
  • understand how your Board can ensure your organization’s leadership, structure, and programming is equitable and inclusive
