Free Screening of The Black Church

Join New Hampshire PBS, in partnership with New Hampshire Humanities, the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire and the Manchester Chapter of the NAACP on Sunday, April 11th at 2pm for a screening and discussion of the new PBS documentary THE BLACK CHURCH: THIS IS OUR STORY, THIS OUR SONG.

The two-part series, hosted by Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., reveals the broad history and culture of the Black Church and explores the African American faith communities on the frontlines of hope and change. Enjoy music and interviews with Oprah Winfrey, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson and more. Watch a preview of the documentary.

This online virtual event will feature 30 minutes of THE BLACK CHURCH documentary followed by an interactive discussion moderated by Dr. Tricia Peone, public programs director at New Hampshire Humanities.

If you attended previous screenings of this groundbreaking documentary, some of the video clips will be familiar. We are pleased to have a new group of panelists to share their thoughts about the history, meaning and music of The Black Church. Panelists include New Hampshire Black Heritage Trail Executive Director JerriAnne Boggis, President of the Manchester Chapter of the NAACP James McKim and the Rev. Robert Thompson. In this presentation, we’ll explore the soulful sounds of The Black Church and celebrate its lasting legacy on American music.
