SUMMARY:Critical Thinking: Sharpen Your Problem Solving & Decision Making
DESCRIPTION:“Critical thinking is\, in short\, self-directed\, self-disciplined\, self-monitored\, and self-corrective thinking. SUMMARY:Lunch N Learn: Unmasking the Hidden Biases in Selection & Usage of Hardware and Software
DESCRIPTION:We use technology – the application of scientific knowledge to the practical aims of human life or\, as it is sometimes phrased\, to the change and manipulation of the human environment (OED) – to automate our work. To aid us in making decisions or even make decisions for us. To help us see things and do things that we ourselves cannot do because of lack of time\, lack of knowledge\, or lack of ability.   \nImplemented as machines\, hardware\, and/or software\, technology has evolved and shaped our world in many ways. Tools such as the internet and email for communications\, word processing\, spreadsheets and presentations for office productivity\, electronic databases for record keeping\, CNC Machines\, robots\, smartphones\, Internet of Things (IoT) devices\, and artificial intelligence are ubiquitous in our lives. \nWe tend to think that technology is objective\, cold\, and dispassionate. But it is not! Technology is built by humans. And we humans are all biased. So\, bias is built into our technology. This has been proven by research performed by organizations such as the World Economic Forum\, MIT\, and others. This session will explore how to recognize bias in not only technology products but also how we use technology.   \nLearning Objectives\nBy the end of this session\, you will be able to: \n\nrecognize bias in technology\nidentify ways to select unbiased technology \nidentify ways to minimize the negative impact of bias in how you use technology\nadvocate for the elimination of bias in technology\n\nSponsored By \n      \n

SUMMARY:12/3 Lunch N Learn: Unmasking the Hidden Biases in Tech: Optimizing Hardware and Software Development & Deployment
DESCRIPTION:We tend to think that the development and deployment of technology is objective\, cold\, and dispassionate. But it is not! Technology is built by humans. And all humans are biased. So\, bias both impacts the way we build technology AND is built into our technology. This has been proven by research performed by organizations such as the World Economic Forum\, MIT\, and others.  \nIn this eye-opening workshop\, we’ll explore the often-overlooked biases that can significantly impact the development and deployment of hardware and software technologies. Participants will gain a deep understanding of cognitive\, social attribution\, and perception biases that unconsciously impact the tech industry. \nThrough interactive exercises and case studies\, attendees will develop practical skills to recognize and address biases in their own work. This workshop is essential for CTOs\, product managers\, developers\, and anyone involved in creating or implementing technology solutions. \nLearning Objectives\nBy the end of this session\, you will be able to: \n\n Identify common biases such as algorithmic bias\, sampling bias\, and sunken cost fallacy\n Understand how these biases can lead to inefficient development and outcomes that are not optimal\n Identify strategies to mitigate biases in the development process\, algorithm design\, and user interface development\n\nJoin us to learn how to optimize development and deployment so that your company thrives and your users are excited. \nSponsored By \n      \n
